James 2:14-17
“What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
(I have heard people respond to requests for help by saying, “I am so sorry…I will pray for you.” That may be less a promise of prayer than it is a cop out. It’s easier to say “Go in peace, be warmed and filled” and “I’ll pray for you” than to actually help them. Talk is cheap and if you have no works then your faith may not be genuine. We are not saved by works but a saving faith works!)
